Where are my instruments and equipment covered?
Worldwide. This means that you will have coverage at your home, studio, while in transit to your "gig" and at the performance venue.
What perils will be covered by this policy?**
The policy is referred to as an "All Risk" policy. This means that unintentional damage caused by anything that is not specifically excluded will be covered. So, fire, lightning, theft, vandalism, damage caused by vehicles or aircraft, windstorm, and accidental breakage are all covered perils. Earthquake damage is even covered in California.

Some exclusions include:
• Normal wear and tear
• Dishonest acts by you, your employees and agents, or those entrusted with your property (other than common carriers for hire)
**Subject to policy terms, limits, conditions and exclusions.

Am I covered if:
I packed up after a performance and found items missing some time later? Yes.
I packed all of my equipment in a van and forgot to close the door? (The equipment fell out. When I realized what happened, I returned to retrieve my stuff, but some of the equipment was damaged and some was missing.) Yes.
I went to the venue and contractors erecting scaffolding damaged my equipment? Yes.
My upstairs neighbor has a leak that breaks through and drenches place, making my guitars and amplifiers unusable? Yes.
A hurricane like Hurricane Katrina destroys my house and all of my equipment? Yes.
What is my deductible?
The policy has a deductible of $100.00. This would be applied to each claim, not to each scheduled item.
What is the valuation basis for any claim that I might have?
You will be paid the actual cash value, if the equipment is not replaced. Your instruments will be valued at replacement cost, if replaced. Replacement items are to be substantially identical to what was stolen or damaged. If an item is no longer being made, a similar item that performs the same functions will be allowed.
Who is the insurance carrier?
This policy is underwritten by Fireman's Fund McGee Marine Underwriters, a division of Fireman's Fund, rated A++ by A.M. Best Company. Admitted in all states.

Studio Frequently Asked Questions

What is studio liability insurance and what does it protect against?
Studio liability is a form of general liability insurance. It is designed to protect you against third-party lawsuits claiming bodily injury or property damage. This policy is designed for studios or rehearsal spaces you rent.

For example, if someone walks into your studio, slips and breaks their ankle, the injured person might sue you for damages (bodily injury).

Another example would be if you rented out your studio and the renters plugged their equipment into your board and their electrical instruments blew out. The renters could sue you for damage to their property (property damage).
Why should I be concerned about general liability insurance?
People get sued. Every business opens itself up to lawsuits simply by dealing with the public. A recording or rehearsal studio is no exception. Also, an increasing number of landlords require tenants to carry this coverage as part of their lease.
Doesn't homeowners insurance cover this exposure?
You must read the details of your policy to know for certain. But most exclude or severely limit the types of business operations they cover. We believe that a business is best covered by a business policy. If you operate a studio and charge a fee for its use, or are in the business of recording, you need this coverage.
Will the program cover bands on the road?
No. Our program is designed to cover "fixed locations," specifically music and/or recording studios. However, our Tour Insurance provides band liability protection on the road, and our Instrument & Equipment insurance covers your equipment anywhere inside of the studio or out on the road.
Does it matter how big my studio is, or how much equipment is in my studio?
Yes. The policy is rated on square footage of your space and annual receipts from the income made from the space. The policy starts at a low minimum premium of $350.
Does the studio have to be in the home?
No. The studio can be anywhere, whether in your home or at a separate location in the USA.
Is there a deductible?
No. This is what is called "first dollar coverage." You don't have to pay any deductible whatsoever.
Who is the insurance carrier?
The Hartford, one of the nation's largest and oldest insurance companies — A rated by A.M. Best Company.
